WhatsApp's built-in formatting covers bold, italic, strikethrough and monospace in chats, but it stops there. It has no cursive, no underline and no small caps, and it doesn't style your name.
That's the gap Unicode fills. Type *Happy Friday* in a chat and you get bold. Type it into your name field and you just get the stars. Paste ๐๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ instead and it stays bold everywhere.

In everyday chats, stick with WhatsApp's own stars and underscores. They stay searchable and read normally with screen readers, which Unicode styles don't always do.
Tips
How do you make a status that people actually read?
Style one line and leave the rest plain. A status like "๐๐ถ๐ฑ ๐ ๐๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ธ โจ" followed by a normal message reads well, while a whole paragraph in cursive gets skipped.
- About line: a short small-caps status like โ สแด๊ฑส ยท แดแดสส๊ฑ แด๊ฐแดแดส 6 reads cleanly in contact lists.
- Name: keep it readable so people recognise you in group chats. A bold first name works; a fully decorated one doesn't.
- Dark mode: use the Dark chat preview above. Thin cursive fades on WhatsApp's dark background, and bold styles hold up better.
- Keep phone numbers, links and addresses plain. Styled digits can't be tapped to call.
