Twitter (X) Font Generator

Turn thread hooks into bold sans, heavy serif italics and clean line spacers built for X's dark mode. Every card shows its real X character count, since styled letters count double.

0 / 280

Posts allow 280 characters. Bold and italic letters count as 2 each on X.

How to Use the Twitter (X) Font Generator

  1. Type your thread hook. Write the opening line of your post or thread, one line per idea. Pick Post, Bio or Name so the counter checks the right limit.

  2. Pick a high-contrast style. Filter by Hooks, Serif, Spacers, Thread or Subtle, and check each card's count, since styled letters count double on X.

  3. Copy in one click. Tap Copy and wait for the green โ€œCopied!โ€, then paste it straight into a new post on your X timeline.

Tip: Bold only the hook. The rest of the post stays plain, searchable and half the character cost.

The guide

Twitter (X) Font Generator โ€“ Stand Out in the Fast-Moving Timeline Feed

A Twitter (X) font generator turns your words into Unicode letters that already look bold, italic or serif, so a post, bio or display name keeps that style after you paste it. X's post box has no bold button for most accounts, so copying styled characters is how people format their hooks.

Everything here is plain text to X. It shows the same on the iPhone app, Android and the website, in light mode or lights out.

Where can you use styled text on X?

X fields and how they handle styled text
Field Limit How to use it
Post280Bold the first line only
Bio160One styled label, like ๐—™๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ
Display name50Works, but keep your real name readable
@handle15Not allowed: letters, numbers and _ only

Character count

Why does bold text use up 280 characters so fast?

X counts each bold, italic or serif Unicode letter as 2 characters. Normal Latin letters and punctuation count as 1, but anything outside that range, including emoji and styled letters, counts double.

So "Here's the playbook" is 19 characters in plain text and 35 in ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฑ (the apostrophe and spaces still count as 1). A fully bold post fits roughly 140 letters, not 280.

That's why the counter above uses X's rules in Post mode. Every card shows what X will actually count, so you won't get the red "over the limit" warning after pasting.

Reach

The Power of High-Contrast Bold Text Blocks in Increasing Impressions and Retweets

Bold text doesn't earn impressions by itself. It gets the first line read, and a post that gets read gets the replies and reposts that make X show it to more people.

The ranking code X published in 2023 weighted replies and reposts far above likes. A hook that makes someone stop and reply is worth more than one that gets a quick like.

On a lights-out timeline, a heavy white line stands out against the grey body text around it. Here's the difference:

The number did most of the work; the bold just made sure people saw it. Bold one line per post, and use a line spacer between sections of a long thread instead of more bold.

Mistakes

What should you keep plain on X?

  • Keywords people search for. X search won't match ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜„๐˜€๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ to "newsletter".
  • Hashtags and @mentions. Styled versions don't link or notify anyone.
  • Whole posts. A post that's entirely bold halves your space and is hard to read with a screen reader.
  • Links and numbers people need to copy, like a code or a price.

FAQ

Twitter (X) Font Generator FAQ

Why does X say my bold post is over 280 characters?

X counts every bold or italic Unicode letter as 2 characters, so styled text fills the limit twice as fast.

Keep only the hook styled and write the rest in plain text. The counter on this page shows X's real count in Post mode.

Do fancy fonts hurt my reach on X?

There's no published X rule against Unicode styling, and many large accounts use bold hooks.

The real cost is search. Styled words don't match normal searches, so keep your keywords plain.

Will bold text look the same in dark mode and on Android?

Yes. The letters take the timeline's text color, so they're white in lights out and black in light mode.

The shape varies a little between iPhone, Android and Windows fonts. Very old phones may show boxes for rarer styles, but bold sans and serif italics work almost everywhere.

Can I use a bold font in my X display name?

Yes, your display name and bio accept styled letters. Your @handle doesn't; it only allows letters, numbers and underscores.

Keep your real name readable so people can find and recognise you.

Does X have a built-in bold button?

Not for most people. X has offered bold and italic formatting to some Premium subscribers in long posts, but free accounts, bios and names have no formatting options.

Unicode styles work for everyone and in every field, which is why they're still the common way to bold a hook.
